Dancing on Ice contestant Melody Thornton has revealed she's been struggling in silence all throughout the competition.

With all of the drama this week about Gemma Collins ducking out of the live show early and Megan Barton-Hanson feuding with boyfriend Wes Nelson's skating partner Vanessa Bauer, there's been a much more serious situation going on.

The former Pussycat Doll is now opening up about the fact that her training schedule has been derailed at times because her pet Pomeranian Franklin was accidentally poisoned over the holiday period by drinking water from the Christmas tree stand.

"It’s poisonous for a dog,” Melody told The Mirror. “He was vomiting and shivering and he had a high fever, it was bad.

“Then it seemed like he was on the mend, but then his urine was bright yellow and I was told that something had gone wrong with his liver.”

When she hasn't been rehearsing with professional partner Alexander Demetriou on the ice, Melody has spent the last several weeks caring for Franklin and rushing him to vet appointments.

"It’s been a long recovery,” she stressed. “They can’t tell you this hurts or say, ‘Mum, don’t worry’.”

In spite of their erratic training schedule, Melody and her partner Alexander scored well enough last weekend to settle safely in the middle of the pack and avoid the Skate-Off that eliminated Mark Little. Here's hoping Franklin is well enough to watch mum this weekend!

Dancing on Ice continues this Sunday (January 20) at 6pm on ITV.
