Memorial at Capitol Fence Grows for USCP Officers Sicknick and Liebengood

Flowers, flags, and handwritten notes were left outside the US Capitol in memory of Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood Jr., the officers who died after Trump supporters violently stormed the building on January 6.

Sicknick died at a local hospital after he was injured “while physically engaging with protesters,” Capitol Police said.

Liebengood died by suicide on January 9.

In a statement, Sicknick’s family said, “The tremendous support we have received from the US Capitol Police, the law enforcement community, and the community as a whole has been overwhelmingly warm and generous.”

“After the violent attacks on the US Capitol and Congressional Office Buildings on January 6, small memorials were erected to honor the USCP officers who sustained fatal injuries, and to thank the USCP for their efforts,” the House Creative Services wrote on Instagram. “The House community will forever be grateful for their sacrifice, and to those of the entire USCP force who continue to keep us safe.” Credit: House Creative Services via Storyful
