A Plymouth man who "died too young" has been remembered in an emotional evening organised by his close friends. The family and friends of karaoke loving Mike Roberts, 38, were also raising funds for epilepsy charities.

Mike Roberts tragically passed away on July 19 after collapsing. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead at 11am on the same day. His sudden death has left his family and friends in a state of shock.

While mourning the loss of Mike, family and friends decided to put on a night in his memory. Long term friend Adrian Kelly was one of the organisers of the memorial night which was held on September 1 at Walkabout on Union Street.

Adrian, 44, said: “The evening was full of emotion and Mike would have loved the night with his family and friends. It was also full of fun and laughter all night long, Mike loved the pub quiz at Walkabout - that’s why we had it there.

“The charity night was in honour of Mike and we also raised over £1,100 for epilepsy groups. We would like to say a big thankyou to Jack, Glen and the team for hosting the event. We would also like to say a big thank you to Chris Snell for hosting the quiz, raffle and karaoke.”

The evening raised money via donations from several Plymouth establishments that Mike was well known by. The funds will be donated to three charities all connected to epilepsy research and support, including the Plymouth Epilepsy Support Group.

Adrian added: “We would also like to thank you all for the donations of prizes and money, to name a few the Duke of Cornwall hotel, the Seymour arms, Noah's Ark pub, the Brass Monkey, 1887 and Plates, Plymouth Argyle and The Albion plus everyone else that donated - you all did us proud, and Mike.

“We would like to say a massive thank you to all those who attended the event and donated or purchased raffle tickets. Last but not least thank you to the other organisers - Alan Williams, David Lane, Jack Best and Stacey Crews for organising the event and making it a special night for Mike’s family.”
