Men Save Girls Washed Out Along Dublin Coast on Inflatable Flamingo

Two young girls were rescued by a group of men after they were washed out along the northern Dublin coast on an inflatable flamingo on August 5.

The uploader, Mags Long, said she was walking in Portmarnock when she noticed a pink inflatable flamingo float drifting out to sea.

Malahide man Gerard Tyrell was the first in the water to attempt to assist the girls before three other men followed. The men worked together against the current and winds to bring the girls back to shore where their parents were anxiously waiting.

Speaking to Dublin Live, Tyrell said, “The parents were very grateful. I don’t think they were able to swim. They didn’t have much English but they came over and shook our hands.” Credit: Mags Long via Storyful
