Yahoo News Mercedes-AMG E63 Update Coming Soon, Wagon Continues for the U.S.
The Mercedes-AMG E63 is about to get a comprehensive styling update.
The 603-hp, twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine is not slated to get hybrid tech.
We're glad to hear that the E63 wagon body style will continue for the U.S. market.
Mercedes-AMG is about to update its E63 high-performance sedan and wagon to align them with the rest of the E-class lineup, which received a thorough facelift recently. In particularly good news for the enthusiast community, AMG will continue to offer the E63 wagon for the U.S. market. It won't have the black plastic cladding and raised ride height now found on the non-AMG E450 All-Terrain model that replaces the standard E450 wagon. (The updated AMG E53 wagon, which is not sold in the U.S., is pictured above.)
To be unveiled in late April, the next AMG E63 will be distinguished from the current model with new headlights, a more pronounced Panamericana grille, and wide, horizontal taillights. The changes will mirror those of the regular E-class, but the E63 will continue to be differentiated with a wider track and huge front air intakes. Inside, it will receive an upgraded MBUX infotainment system with AMG-specific functions including a special gauge cluster display.
Despite rumors to the contrary, the E63 S model's twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 will not receive a 48-volt hybrid system. In fact, its powertrain will remain essentially unchanged, and we believe it will carry on with the current specs: 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque.
But AMG is responding to customer feedback regarding what some owners perceive as an overly harsh and sporty ride, and the suspension tuning will likely be changed for an slightly more comfortable driving experience. However, all sporty functions such as the rear-wheel-drive "drift" mode remain.
Pricing will stay close to the current model, which starts at $108,345, with a $4400 premium for the station wagon. Deliveries will begin in the fall.
