Northern Line trains have been disrupted this afternoon after a "track fault" between Liverpool Central and Moorfields. Fire crews were spotted outside Liverpool Central dealing with the incident.

The ECHO understands there was no fire on a train, but there has been an issue with signalling equipment. A rail replacement bus is currently in operation between Sandhills and Moorfields while the fault is fixed, while a separate rail replacement bus will be in operation between Hunts Cross and Moorfields.

Posting on X, Merseyrail said: "Southport services will start and terminate at Sandhills, Ormskirk services will start and terminate at Walton. Headbolt Lane services will start and terminate at Sandhills and Hunts Cross services are suspended."

Merseyrail passengers took to social media to comment on the incident. One X user said they were "still scared" after travelling in a train that reportedly "stunk of fire". They added: "it was so strong the smell".
