'It's a Mess Down Here': South Alabama Resident Surveys Storm Damage

Residents in southern Alabama surveyed storm damage on Thursday, September 17, after Hurricane Sally made landfall in the state the previous day.

Amy Lynn Cuny said this footage shows storm damage in Elberta, Alabama, including downed trees and a damaged dock. “It’s a mess down here,” she says in the video.

Storm Sally made landfall in Alabama as a Category 2 hurricane in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The storm has downed trees, flooded roads, and cut power for communities across the South, including in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

As of Thursday morning, the storm had weakened to a post-tropical cyclone and was bringing “torrential” rainfall to the Carolinas, the National Hurricane Center said. Credit: Amy Lynn Cuny via Storyful
