The Met Office has put parts of Kent under a weather warning as Storm Bert is set to bring strong gusts over the weekend. The county is forecast to receive gusts of more than 50mph throughout Saturday (November 23) and Sunday (November 24).

A yellow weather warning for wind has been put in place across the weekend, starting at 3pm on Saturday and ending at 9pm on Sunday. Forecasters say there is a chance of power cuts or damage to buildings during this period.

There is also a chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris, as well as from large waves and beach material being thrown onto seafronts, coastal roads and properties. The Kent areas covered by this weekend's weather warning includes Canterbury, Dover, Ashford, Folkestone and Cranbrook.

In Canterbury, wind is forecast to peak on Sunday at 55mph, and the area is also forecast to receive lots of heavy rain. Met Office chief meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “Storm Bert is what we call a ‘multi-hazard event’, bringing snow, rain and wind to the UK for the majority of the weekend.

"Multiple National Severe Weather Warnings are in place and will be added to and amended over the weekend. It’s possible this may be at short notice, so it is important people keep up to date with the very latest forecast."

Drivers are being advised to "plan ahead" if they're out and about this weekend. Mark Nash, National Highways' national network manager, said: “With the arrival of Storm Bert it is important to plan ahead for your journey, and if weather conditions become challenging, adjust your driving behaviour and take extra care."

He added: "A section of our website provides practical advice for travelling in storms, high winds and gales. It’s also a good idea for people to remember TRIP – Top-up your vehicle; Rest every two hours, Inspect tyres and lights and Prepare for the journey ahead.”
