The Met Office and BBC Weather teams have said snowfall could hammer the UK this week. The Met Office says temperatures will drop again early next week with the potential for snow in parts of the country as we head into the first week of December.

The Met Office says Scotland and the north of England are expected to be hit with snow and hail from around midday on Tuesday, which should pass by the evening. Then on Wednesday afternoon, the Met Office expects some more hail, sleet and snow to hit Scotland, which should again pass by the evening.y

Looking ahead to Saturday (November 30) evening, the Met Office said: "Remaining cloudy with patchy light rain and drizzle at first. Heavier spells of rain moving eastwards into central parts by the end of the night. Very mild and breezy."

The Sunday (December 1) outlook adds: "Another mild and cloudy start with rain sweeping eastwards, heavy at times especially in the west. Brighter spells developing behind with showers. Coastal gales in the north." The outlook from Monday (December 2) onwards explains: "Rain for some on Monday, then turning colder with wintry showers in the north.

"A frosty start on Tuesday with rain, sleet and snow later. Rain clearing through on Wednesday." The BBC Weather team, meanwhile, adds of tonight and tomorrow: "Tonight will start mainly cloudy and mainly dry. However spells of rain will soon move into Northern Ireland, before continuing eastwards into Scotland, England and Wales later. Breezy and mild.

"Tomorrow will stay mild and breezy. Thick cloud and showery rain will push eastward across eastern England. Elsewhere and behind this, variable cloud, bright spells, and showery spells of rain." Its early outlook for the week ahead adds: "Remaining breezy on Monday, but cooler, with a mix of bright spells and showers across the UK, possibly wintry on Scottish hills.

"Tuesday will be dry and bright initially, with a band of rain pushing east later on, falling as snow on the northern hills. Wednesday will be dry and bright for many, but turning cloudier and windier in the west later with rain by evening."
