Sunday started off with some summer sunshine for many in the North East - but will the warm weather last?

The Met Office is forecasting a mixed bag for the region this week, with some sun as well as cloud and rain. Temperatures are not expected to rise above 21C.

In Newcastle, Sunday was expected to see highs of 21C, with the sunshine giving way to cloud in the afternoon. The mercury then falls to 19C on Monday, 16C on Tuesday with a chance of light showers by lunchtime, and then 13C on Wednesday and Thursday.

The picture is similar in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, and in Hexham, Northumberland, with Sunday and Monday warmer, but the rest of the week cooler, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 14C by Friday. Some parts of the North East are expected to see some rain during the week, mainly over Tuesday and Wednesday.

In Consett, County Durham, it will go from highs of 18C on Sunday to 12C on Friday. There are likely to be light showers on Tuesday and Wednesday - the forecast for Wednesday is showing a maximum of 10C.
