Warm weather is set to sweep parts of the UK in the next seven days. Despite a five-hour fog warning in Wales on Monday, September 16, many parts of the country experienced good spells of sunshine during the day.

And it seems that the sunny and warm weather is set to continue for the week. According to the Met Office despite some mist and fog on certain days there will be plenty of sunshine across much of England, Wales, and Scotland. The forecaster has said temperatures will then rise through the week and could reach 23°C or 24°C by Wednesday, September 18, in sunny parts of central, southern, and eastern England. According to one expert the change in the weather will be a "welcome relief" for many.

Dean Hall, senior meteorologist at the Met Office, said: "The signals are that high pressure may stay in charge of our weather for some time yet so we will wait to see how things pan out as we get towards the end of the week. Summer as a whole has been a bit on the coolish side for some. Temperatures have not been great over the past few days so this will be a welcome relief.

"If you like the warmth and the sunshine then it will certainly feel a bit warmer compared to what we've had recently – it will make a change from the rather changeable (weather), certainly it’s been wetter at times in places, so certainly a bit of respite from the unsettled conditions going forwards."

Here's the Met Office forecast for the next seven days as warm and sunny weather is predicted:

Monday, September 16

Monday evening is set to be dry and settled, according to the Met Office. The cloud will thickening across the north but further south it will turn chilly under clear skies. The forecaster has warned there will be mist and fog forming in rural parts in the early hours of Tuesday morning with a minimum temperature of 8°C.

Tuesday, September 17

According to the Met Office the weather in most of Wales on Tuesday will begin similarly to how it was on Monday. The forecaster has said we could be experiencing an early mist and fog but this will soon clear and leave another "dry and fine" day.

There will be "plenty of sunshine across the country", according to the Met Office, and it will be feeling warm, but with light and variable winds. The maximum temperature will be around 21°C. In Cardiff it is set to be around 20°C while it will be 19°C in Wrexham and 18°C in Holyhead.

Wednesday, September 18

Perhaps it will be a bit cloudy and dull in the east but by Wednesday afternoon it will be mostly sunny and warm for Wales. It will get warmer towards the end of the afternoon with temperatures around 21°C in Cardiff and Swansea and 20°C in Pembroke.

Thursday, September 19

The dry and settled weather will continue on Thursday, according to the Met Office, with warm sunshine by day but cooler nights with mist and fog developing. Temperatures will be around 16°C in Aberystwyth and Newtown, 15°C in Caernarfon, and around 14°C in Colwyn Bay by the evening.

Friday, September 20

According to the Met Office it will become breezier by Friday with easterly winds strengthening through the Bristol Channel. The morning will start with some sunshine and clouds before potential rain for areas such as Cardiff and Monmouth in the afternoon though it will be mostly dry in the evening.

Saturday, September 21, and Sunday, September 22

Despite the sunny and warm weather during the week it could all change during the weekend. According to the Met Office's long-range weather forecast for the UK it will continue to be warm and dry with sunny spells over Saturday and Sunday.

But the eastern coasts of the UK may see some more persistent cloud at times and a stiff easterly breeze is likely in the south, the forecaster has said. It predicts that through the weekend similar conditions will prevail in the north of the UK while southern parts will see an increasing chance of showers, some of which could be heavy or thundery.
