Met Office issue new weather bomb warnings as Wales set for four days of extreme ice, wind and heavy rain
The Met Office has issued even more new weather warnings as Wales is set for four days of extreme ice, wind and heavy rain. As Storm Éowyn weakens and clears to the northeast of the UK, Saturday will remain a breezy day everywhere with strong winds persisting in the north.
It will be drier for many, with showers replacing persistent heavy rain, these wintry in the north, especially over higher ground. A yellow warning for ice has been issued for Wales on Saturday and will be in place from 4am to 11am.
A Met Office forecast said: "Showers will move across this region on Friday evening and early Saturday morning. Skies will clear following the showers with ice likely to form on untreated surfaces and lead to some hazardous travelling conditions."

The areas in Wales affected are Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen, Vale of Glamorgan.
A further area of low pressure will the influence the UK’s weather from Sunday, initially in the west, but spreading further east and bringing further wind and rain from Sunday and into the start of next week. Weather warnings have been issued for Wales then too, this time for wind and rain.
The Met Office forecast for Wales on Sunday says: "Another wet and windy spell on Sunday with gales in places and some heavy rain possible. Remaining changeable and windy on Monday and Tuesday with showers. Temperatures close to average."
Here is a summary of all the warnings for Wales this weekend:
Saturday
Ice warning for 4am to 11am
The warning states: "Showers will move across this region on Friday evening and early Saturday morning. Skies will clear following the showers with ice likely to form on untreated surfaces and lead to some hazardous travelling conditions."
Sunday
Wind warning from 8am to 3pm
The warning states: "A further period of strong south to southeasterly winds accompanied by some heavy rain is expected to move into the southwest on Sunday morning, then spread to other southern and western areas through the day. Winds are likely to gust 50 to 60mph quite widely, and around some exposed coasts and hills gusts to 70mph are possible."
Rain warning from 8am to 6am on Monday
This warning states: "A period of heavy rain is likely to affect central and southern England and much of Wales during Sunday morning followed by some heavy, thundery showers. Quite widely, 10-20 mm will fall, with locally nearer 30-50 mm over high ground, particularly over exposed south or southeast-facing upslopes. It's then possible that a further spell of heavy rain may develop and affect parts of England and Wales on Sunday evening, clearing early Monday and should this be the case a few places may see as much as 80 mm of rainfall in total. Given recent heavy rain, this extra rainfall could lead to some local surface water and river flooding."
BBC Wales weather presenter Sue Charles said that the further bad weather over the weekend has the potential for the next storm of the season to be named. That would be Storm Floris and would be the sixth since the season began in October.
