Met Office issues 16-hour amber weather warning for Peterborough, Yaxley and other Cambs areas
Areas of Cambridgeshire are now covered by a 16-hour amber weather warning for rain. The warning, a step up from a yellow weather warning, is in force between 5am and 9pm on Monday, September 23.
The amber warning covers the north of the county, including Peterborough, Yaxley and surrounding areas. The entire county is covered by a 24-hour yellow weather warning.
The amber weather warning states: "An area of heavy rain is expected to develop across central and southern England during the early of hours of Monday, edging north and west and then becoming slow-moving somewhere across the warning area for several hours.

"It will then weaken and move away eastwards later Monday evening and overnight. Not all counties within the warning area will be equally affected, but it seems likely that some areas will see 60-80 mm and a few places may receive 100-120mm or more. This is likely to result in travel disruption and some flooding. Lightning may be an additional hazard in places."

What are the different levels of Met Office Weather Warning?
The Met Office issues weather warnings when there is a risk of weather causing damage, disruption or danger to life. Generally warnings will be issued for heavy rain, wind, fog, thunder, ice or snow. They come in three categories.
Yellow: The lowest of the three. Yellow means you should plan ahead about potential disruption to travel and other day-to-day activities. These are the most common.
Amber: A step up from Yellow, an Amber warning means there is an increased risk of disruption/danger to life and property.
Red: These are only issued when 'extreme weather' is expected. When one is issued the Met Office advise immediate action is taken to keep yourself and others safe as widespread damage, disruption and risk to life is likely. Red warnings are extremely rare anywhere in the UK.
