The Met Office has issued a new 24-hour rain warning for Surrey - and warned there could be "some disruption". The yellow weather warning is for all day on Monday (September 23).

The warning covers the entirety of Surrey and will be in place from 00:00 on Monday morning and will run until 23:59 on Monday evening. The Met Office says heavy rain may result in some disruption with communities potentially being cut off by flooded roads, possible power cuts, spray and flooding leading to difficult driving conditions, and delays or cancellations to some public transport services.

The Met Office weather warning says: "Areas of heavy rain may result in some disruption on Monday. Areas of of heavy rain are expected to affect many parts of England and Wales during Monday. There is still some uncertainty regarding which areas will be affected by the heaviest rain, but at this stage parts of the Midlands, northeast England and east Wales look most likely to see the greatest accumulations.

"However, anywhere within the warning area could have impactful rainfall through the course of Monday. There is potential that 30-50mm could develop in any part of the warning area, much of which could fall in six hours or less. Some locations could see 80-100mm over the course of 12 to 24 hours."

A spokesperson for the Met Office, providing an outlook for Monday to Wednesday, said: "Heavy rain likely across central parts of England on Monday with brighter spells for some. Calmer on Tuesday a few showers possible. More widely wet and windy from mid-week."
