Met Office issues full list of snow, ice and wind warnings for today
Several regions across the UK are bracing for another bout of unsettled weather, as the Met Office has announced snow, ice, and wind warnings for the upcoming weekend. Following on from the chaos caused by Storm Éowyn on Friday, which saw gusts reach 100mph in Drumalbin, Lanarkshire, the weather service's yellow alerts signal a continued potential for disruption.
Many air and rail services experienced delays or cancellations on Friday due to red and amber warnings from the National Weather Agency. Tragically, in Ireland, a man's life was claimed when a tree, toppled by the storm, struck his car in Raphoe, County Donegal, with gardaí (the Irish police) confirming the incident.
Despite the passing of Storm Éowyn, Saturday is expected to offer little relief as new warnings for wind and rain have been issued, highlighting risks including travel disruption, flooding, and power outages. Speaking on the situation, Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly commented, "The influence of Storm Éowyn on the UK's weather will diminish as it moves further north and east on Saturday morning, but there's little respite in the conditions for some with the next area of low pressure arriving from the southwest on Sunday."

He warned, "While Sunday's system doesn't have the same strength as Eowyn, it will hamper some recovery efforts and bring further wind and rain, with the possibility of some flooding in places. 10-20mm of rain will fall quite widely on Sunday in central and southern England, much of Wales and Northern Ireland, with 30-50mm possible over high ground."
Adding to concerns, he noted, "Thundery showers could top up totals later in the day for some."
"With this rain falling on saturated ground in many places, there's a chance of flooding for some, with winds an accompanying hazard with the system."
