Met Office issues Stoke-on-Trent with 15-hour snow and ice warning
Forecasters have issued a warning for snow and ice across Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire with families braced for some wintry conditions. Today and the Met Office has rolled out the yellow weather warning that will come into force on Monday evening.
It comes as forecasters with the BBC have brought forward their prediction for when snow could hit North Staffordshire. As reported by StokeonTrentLive earlier today the Beeb reckons parts of the Moorlands - including Leek - could see see some heavy snow showers on Tuesday morning.
Now the Met Office has issued a new yellow alert for snow and ice that will cover the Potteries, Moorlands and Newcastle. The warning will come in at 7pm on Monday and will run until 10am on Tuesday (November 19) morning.

The alert states: "An area of snow may bring disruption to a central swathe of the UK during Monday night and Tuesday morning." Such a warning brings with it a 'small chance' of power cuts and pavements 'becoming impassable.'
That comes as a cold-health alert for Staffordshire is also in place that will run from 9pm today (November 17) until 9am on November 21.
Latest Met Office and BBC snow forecasts
The Met Office doesn't think Stoke-on-Trent will see any snow this week. It is predicting heavy rain between 5pm tomorrow until the early hours of Tuesday morning - when there's a chance of sleet. The forecaster is however predicting a very cold week in Stoke-n-Trent where it will drop to -1C on Tuesday night - and feel like -5C.
Temperatures will only get up to 5C on Friday and sit low all week. Meanwhile the Met Office reckons there's a chance of some light snow in Leek on Tuesday morning.
The BBC agrees it will be cold in the Potteries with that service forecasting some sleet on Tuesday after a wet Monday evening. The Beeb reckons November 19 will bring heavy snow to Leek in mid-morning with further light dustings on Wednesday evening and Thursday night.
What the Met Office has said today
The service reckons snow is likely on higher ground around the UK with upto 20cm on very hilly areas. Andy Page, chief meteorologist with the Met Office, said “We have issued yellow warnings for snow and ice as cold weather moves in from the north. This brings snow showers and some ice to parts of Scotland on Sunday night, and then the potential for a spell of snow to lead to disruption to some transport routes across a central swathe of the UK on Tuesday morning.
"Gusty winds in the east also remain a potential hazard. Updates to the warnings for wintry hazards are likely so it is important to stay up to date with the latest forecast."
