Met Office issues weather warning as heavy rain set to hit Merseyside

The Met Office has issued a weather warning as heavy rain is set to hit Merseyside. The yellow weather warning is in place from midnight on Sunday, September 22 to 23.59pm the same day.

In Merseyside, the warning covers the whole of the Wirral and parts of Liverpool. The Met Office also issued a yellow weather warning for rain on Monday, September 23 which is in place from midnight to 23.59pm that day.

The poor weather could cause disruption, including spray and flooding which could impact driving conditions, delays or cancellations to trains or bus services, homes could become flooded and small chance of power cuts.

Forecasters for the weather service said: "Today: A cloudy start with patchy mist and outbreaks of rain lingering across the Pennines. The best of any sunshine in the north west, whilst outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, drifts slowly northwards across the southern counties this afternoon. Maximum temperature 19 °C.

"Tonight: Patchy rain spreads northwards towards Lancashire overnight, with occasional heavy bursts further south. Drier in the north, though still rather cloudy, and breezy over the Pennines and in the west. Minimum temperature 14 °C.

"Monday: Patchy drizzle lingers across the north, whilst a more organised band of persistent rain, occasionally heavy, pushes gradually north-eastwards further south. Beginning to feel cooler with strengthening north-easterly winds. Maximum temperature 16 °C."

The heavy rain is due at around 4pm today and will carry on overnight, according to the Met Office's forecast.
