A yellow warning for heavy rain has been issued for Leicestershire and large parts of England and Wales. The Met Office is urging people to be alert to potential flooding and disruption.

The Met Office warns that areas of heavy, possibly thundery rain may spread north and west across England and Wales overnight into Sunday (September 8). While there's uncertainty in exact details, rainfall amounts could vary significantly across the warning area, with some locations potentially seeing 40-60mm of rain, and a few spots possibly receiving 80-100mm by Sunday evening.

The Met Office report states that the region will likely be affected from Saturday night (September 7) into Sunday, with the possibility of persistent heavy rain developing. The Met Office has stressed that the extent and intensity of rainfall remains "very uncertain" at this stage.

The yellow alert highlights concerns over potential flooding, travel disruption, and the possibility of power cuts in affected areas. Driving conditions are expected to be challenging, particularly on Sunday, and motorists are urged to exercise caution.

Despite the warning, Leicestershire's forecast for Sunday includes a mix of cloud and rain, with temperatures expected to peak at 22C around 3pm. The Met Office advises residents to stay informed about the evolving weather situation and take necessary precautions.

The alert is in force from 9pm on Saturday until 6pm on Sunday, covering a significant portion of the country including Leicestershire.
