The Met Office has predicted that Brits could enjoy temperatures of up to 25C today, although "torrential downpours" are also on the cards. Forecasters have described Friday's weather as "a mixed bag", and it seems this unsettled pattern will persist today.

However, those who manage to avoid the rain can expect a pleasant and balmy day in the 25C sunshine, which is most likely to be seen in the Southeast of England around 3pm or 4pm.

Amy Bokota, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: "Later on through the morning and into the afternoon, there will be some more sunshine developing and some of the cloud will start to push back towards the coast," She added: "It will be a brighter afternoon in-between the showers. There will be particularly some decent spells of sunshine across the southern half of the UK too. Temperatures could even reach up to 25C. If you are out of those showers, it will still feel pretty pleasant. But torrential downpours are potentially possible."

Kent is expected to be among the warmest areas today, but temperatures are likely to exceed 20C in Greater London, Surrey, Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, among other counties.

Even with rainfall set to affect certain regions, notably Cambridgeshire and Norfolk as the late afternoon approaches, this will do little to stave off conditions. The most intense rain is forecasted to lash across the Home Counties, Midlands, and Southwest England throughout the day, reports the Mirror.

With a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms announced by the Met Office, there's potential for sudden flooding to create havoc on roads and possibly isolate communities.

Ms Bokota said: "Through the rest of Saturday, we do still see further showers developing, and pushing out from the south. Cloud will continue to push back in from the East coast. So, it is going to be a much cloudier start on Sunday, and we do still have another warning. This one is different to the last two we have seen on Friday and Saturday. This one is a rainfall warning."

Come Sunday, a warning is issued due to the considerable volume of expected rainfall during the day. Regions such as South Wales and the Midlands are pegged to bear the brunt of these torrential rains, with flood alerts active, including for various parts along the Wye estuary spanning Wales and England.
