Met Office predicts cold Arctic air to be replaced by big change next week
We didn’t have much of a summer in Wales but we are at least set to get some fine and dry weather over the coming week and towards the end of September. Despite the odd sunny and warm day during the summer holidays, many in Wales have complained about the wet and cold weather we witnessed here in July and August.
While it has turned colder in recent days, it has remained largely dry - and the good news is we’re set to see much more of that in the coming days. According to BBC Weather, most parts of the country will see fine weather over the coming week. In Cardiff, for example, Saturday and Sunday will be dry with patches of sunshine, but Monday will see some drizzle and light winds. However, from Tuesday onwards we can expect to enjoy sunshine with temperatures even reaching 20C on Saturday - surprisingly high for the latter part of September. The picture is similar across most parts of Wales, and while coastal areas are expected to be cooler, Cardigan in Ceredigion could still see temperatures in the high teens as we approach the end of next week.

Here is a breakdown of the weather to come in Wales, according to the Met Office:
Today: A dry day is in store to begin the weekend with a mixture of cloud and sunny periods, these perhaps hazy at times. Feeling warmer too with light winds. Maximum temperature 18 °C.
Tonight: Staying dry for most overnight but some rain arriving in Anglesey later. Turning chilly where skies remain clearer elsewhere but generally much milder than more recent nights. Minimum temperature 8 °C.
Sunday: Cloudier than today with periods of rain in the north, locally persistent in the northwest. The best of any brightness in the south and east. Breezy on some coasts. Maximum temperature 16 °C.
Outlook for Monday to Wednesday: Early cloud and drizzle in the south on Monday, then fine and bright for all. Dry with periods of warm sunshine thereafter though often chilly overnight with fog patches.
Wednesday September 18 to Friday September 27: Through the second half of next week, the vast majority of the UK is expected to be fine and dry, with spells of sunshine for most areas during the day. If any rainfall develops it will likely be confined to the far north or northwest and only at the start of this period. Daytime temperatures will likely be above average for many regions, although some cool nights are possible with mist or fog patches developing overnight. Fairly strong winds could affect the south at times. There is little change expected during the following weekend and much of the week that follows, although by late September there is a chance that more unsettled conditions may begin to develop.
In terms of across the UK, Jason Kelly, a chief meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “The cold Arctic air we have been experiencing will be replaced with warmer westerlies over the weekend. High pressure will bring fine weather to the south, but there is an area of low pressure to the northwest, which will push some weather fronts across Scotland and Northern Ireland, bringing rain and thicker cloud. It will also be windy across Northern Scotland, especially on Saturday.
“In the wake of the front on Sunday, high pressure then builds, bringing fine and dry conditions to most parts of the UK for much of next week. If any rain develops it is expected to be confined to the extreme northwest of Scotland on Monday and Tuesday. There is a risk of some fog patches overnight and temperatures continue to increase, with many places a little above average by mid-week.”
