The North East is bracing itself for freezing temperatures with snow and sleet expected to hit the region this week.

Now a Met Office weather map has shown where and how much snow is expected to fall on Monday and Tuesday. A yellow warning for snow and ice is in place from 7pm on Monday to 10am on Tuesday.

People are being urged to be careful on the roads and to expect possible disruption on public transport. The Met office says: "There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected. A small chance that untreated pavements and cycle paths become impassable.
