Met Office thunderstorm warning extended to cover all of Nottinghamshire
A Met Office warning for thunderstorms has been extended to cover the entirety of Nottinghamshire amid potential flooding and power cuts. The weather agency is expecting hot temperatures in Nottingham for much of the day, with a high of 22C currently predicted for Saturday (September 21).
Yet a yellow weather warning is also in place, lasting for the full day and ending at midnight. The thunderstorm warning previously covered other areas of the East Midlands bar Nottinghamshire, but this has now been extended to cover the city and wider county.
The Met Office says potential effects include cancellations to bus and train services, power cuts and flooding to homes and businesses. In terms of its outlook for the region throughout Saturday, the Met Office says: "Cloud will break to allow sunny spells to develop, followed by a risk of showers spreading north, which could be thundery, with localised downpours and a chance of hail and frequent lightning.
"Later southern areas are likely to become dry." Nottingham is set for two very cloudy and wet days following Saturday's thunder warnings.
