Met Office updates Nottinghamshire weather warning and says snow now more likely to cause disruption
The Met Office has updated its snow warning which covers Nottinghamshire saying up to 10cm is possible. A yellow warning for snow and ice comes into effect at 7pm this evening (Monday, November 18).
The 15-hour warning is valid until 10am tomorrow (Tuesday, November 19), but it has now been updated with the likelihood of impacts increased. Posting an update at 10.21am on Monday, the Met Office said: "The warning area has been adjusted slightly, mainly to remove it from southern Scotland, whilst the likelihood of impacts has increased."
The weather agency said there remains uncertainty about where will be affected worst by the snow but added it "seems most likely across parts of Yorkshire and Derbyshire". A spokesperson added: "A period of rain, sleet and snow will occur during Monday evening, overnight into Tuesday morning.

"The most likely scenario is for most of the snow to accumulate on hills, with 5 to 10 cm possible above 200 metres and perhaps as much as 15 to 20 cm above 300 metres. There is a chance of snow settling at lower levels, where 5 to 10 cm would prove much more disruptive - this remains uncertain, but seems most likely across parts of Yorkshire and Derbyshire.
"As rain, sleet and snow clear on Tuesday morning, ice may form on untreated surfaces." The Met Office has also warned of power cuts in Nottingham with the Arctic conditions expected to cause considerable disruptions, affecting not only travel but also jeopardising electricity supply across different regions.
The UK Health Security Agency has also issued a cold health alert across the East Midlands as a forecasted drop in temperatures could lead to problems for vulnerable people. The alert, which started at 9pm on Sunday, November 17, lasts until 9am on Thursday, November 21.
It's as the autumn's relatively mild weather thus far finally turns, with lows of -3C on the week's coldest day - Tuesday, November 19. Highs will drop from 5C on Monday, November 18 to 3C on Tuesday, 2C on Wednesday, 2C on Thursday and 3C on Friday before rising again at the weekend.
