Met Office urgent 36-hour 'danger to life' warning as 80mph gusts to batter UK
'Very strong' winds are set to batter parts of the UK this week. The Met Office has today issued a weather warning for wind, affecting seven regions.
According to the Met Office, a 'deep area of low pressure' will bring the strong winds to Britain. Buildings could be damaged and tiles may be blown from roofs, while power cuts are expected.
The Met Office said: "Injuries and danger to life could occur from flying debris, as well as large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties. Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.

"Some roads and bridges may close." The yellow weather warning for wind will come into force from midnight on Friday, January 24, and last until noon on Saturday, January 25.
The alert covers Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Met Office said: "A deep area of low pressure is expected to pass close to or across the northwest of the UK on Friday and Saturday.
"It will bring a spell of very strong southeasterly to southwesterly winds with gusts reaching 50-60 mph inland and 70-80 mph along coasts (and perhaps higher than this in a few locations). The wind strength will gradually ease through Saturday from the south."
