Met Office weather warning for icy conditions with temperatures as low as -12C
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for icy conditions across Teesside.
Scattered wintery showers between 4pm today and 10am Friday morning could lead to some icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, which could lead to injuries due to trips and falls.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Scattered wintry showers, occasionally feeding inland from the North Sea through Thursday evening and night, may lead to some icy patches on untreated surfaces as temperatures fall below freezing. Isolated snow accumulations of 1-3cm are possible, mainly on hills above 150m elevation."

The current Met Office forecast for the region this evening says: "Another very cold night, with a widespread frost, and some rural areas potentially seeing minimums in the negative double figures of Celsius. The odd patch of freezing fog again forming. Minimum temperature -12 °C.""
For Friday it says: "A very similar day to Thursday, with early very cold weather and isolated freezing fog patches followed by sunny spells and isolated coastal wintry showers. Staying cold. Maximum temperature 3 °C."
What should I do?
Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls.
If you need to make a journey on foot, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery. Similarly, if cycling, try and stick to main roads which are more likely to have been treated.
Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.
Be prepared for weather warnings to change: when a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area.
Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton are among the areas included in the latest weather warning.
