Met Office's verdict on snow hitting UK as weather set to turn much colder in days
The Met Office has issued its verdict on when snow could hit the UK.
According to the forecasters, temperatures are expected to drop as we head into November, bringing with it the chance of snow showers across the north of the country, including Yorkshire.
But before there’s any chance of us seeing snow fall, conditions are expected to be “settled”, with “mist, fog and rain” all in the forecast. The Met Office long range weather forecast for the UK between Wednesday, October 30, and Friday, November 8, says: “The period is likely to be characterised by often quiet and settled weather, as an area of high pressure becomes the dominant feature of the weather.

"Some mist and fog is probable in the south at first, alongside rather cloudy conditions, whilst in the extreme north spells of stronger winds and rain could brush past giving a slightly more unsettled picture.”
Any chance of snow will come as we head into November, as conditions turn colder. A spokesperson for the Met Office continued: “Into the start of November, there is a chance the weather could (briefly) turn much colder/brighter, with a chance of snow showers in northern and eastern areas, but it's equally possible these could stay clear of the UK, or the milder conditions could remain in place. Either way going forward it's likely to stay mainly settled, with an increasing chance of more unsettled weather developing later in this period.”
Despite the excitement around possible snowfall, it looks like it will be a couple of weeks before it becomes a possibility. Over the remainder of the weekend, temperatures are expected to feel “warm with light” winds across Yorkshire.
The Met Office weather forecast for Yorkshire on Saturday, October 26, is: “A sunny day after any mist and fog patches clear. Likely to remain cloudy along the east coast and towards the Humber where cloud may be thick enough to produce the odd spot of rain. Feeling warm with light winds. Maximum temperature 15 °C.”
Tomorrow, it’s set to be a dry start to the day, before showers arrive in the afternoon. The Met Office weather forecast for Yorkshire on Sunday, October 27, is: “Dry and sunny morning. Cloud will steadily build Sunday afternoon ahead of a band of rain that sinks southwards overnight. Rain perhaps turning persistent over western hills. Maximum temperature 13 °C.”
