An abusive Met Police officer targeted his own partner, a disciplinary panel has revealed. The cop - referred to as ‘Officer A’ - took his partner’s mobile phone from her and pushed over during an argument over Christmas plans in September 2021.

His partner called the police regarding the “assault” and he was interviewed the next day. However he denied all accusations, claiming “the allegations are false and untrue. I have fully explained to Essex Police investigators what happened.”

He claimed that he pushed her back in self-defence. He went on to say that he chose not to challenge these issues, “believing that there would be protections in place for such matters in the family court setting”.

In a separate fit of rage, he also threw picture frames down the stairs with such force it damaged them, the panel heard. Officer A had left the force by the time the disciplinary panel released their findings.

Panel Chair Assistant Commissioner Pippa Mills said: “It is entirely unacceptable for police officers who are responsible for enforcing the law and abiding by the values of the organisation and code of ethics to act in the manner I have found FPO A acted.

"Doing so undermines public trust and confidence in policing as well as our reputation. The public could not have confidence in FPO A to protect them or others in the future, quite the opposite.”

She continued: “As such, having considered the matter fully and including the nature and severity of the breaches of the Standards of Professional Behaviour, my decision is that Former Officer A: Would have been dismissed if still serving and shall be placed on the College of Policing Barred List.”
