Scotland Yard on Friday said it was “not prepared to discuss” whether it will attempt to extradite actor Kevin Spacey who faces being charged with four counts of sexual assault.

The alleged assaults were on three men and took place in London between March 2005 and August 2008, and in Gloucestershire in April 2013, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

He was artistic director of the Old Vic theatre in London between 2004 and 2015.

The development follows a review of evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in a previous investigation.

It is understood that while the CPS has authorised the charges, Spacey has not been formally charged because he is not in the country.

Today the Met refused to confirm if it will seek to extradite the actor to Britain to answer the case. A spokesman said: “We are not prepared to discuss this.”

In such cases, the person concerned can choose to return to face charges. If this does not happen, prosecutors could seek to extradite.

Two-time Oscar winner Spacey has previously denied all the allegations.
