Meteor Streaks Through Sky Above Puerto Rico
Impressive footage captured in Puerto Rico on the night of May 30 to May 31 shows a bright fireball crossing the sky as part of a meteor shower.
“This is a tau Herculid meteor,” photographer Frankie Lucena told Storyful.
Lucena capture the footage at 4:27 UTC in Cabo Rojo. He said: “It is a piece of Comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3.”
Comet 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 3 (also known as SW 3), was expected to be much more intense, with a shooting star storm having been forecast.
Although the storm didn’t occur, it did produce enough luminous meteors to catch attention around the world. Credit: Frankie Lucena via Storyful
