Metrolink disruption to last for HOURS after tram derails as severe delays continue

Severe disruption across Greater Manchester's tram network is set to continue into the afternoon rush hour, according to transport bosses.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), who are responsible for running the Metrolink, said re-railing work will take 'several hours' and warned passengers to expect delays during peak hours on Friday afternoon (September 13).

All services from Cornbrook are currently terminated as engineers work to repair the derailed tram. It is not clear exactly when the station will reopen.

A TfGM spokesperson said: “At 08:00am today (Friday 13 September) we received reports of the derailment leaving Cornbrook. The derailment is currently causing disruption across the Metrolink network with no services between Old Trafford/Firswood/Wharfside/Media City and City Centre.

“Ticket acceptance is in place on selected bus services between Eccles, East Didsbury, Manchester Airport, Altrincham, Trafford Centre, Rochdale and Bury.

“The re-railing work will take several hours, so disruption is likely to last into the afternoon peak.”
