Mexico earthquake: Volunteers break into moving song

A group of volunteers in Mexico City sang ‘Cielito Lindo’ while gathering food and medical equipment on the night a catastrophic earthquake hit near Mexico’s capital (September 19). Amateur video shows local people organising rescue efforts in Roma Norte, one of the worst-hit neighbourhoods. The crowds suddenly start singing the popular Mexican song “Cielito Lindo”, which contains the lyrics: “Sing, don’t cry because singing cheers hearts.” Anahí Olvera Paredes, who filmed the video, told Reuters the moment make her feel the chills. “It was a very incredible feeling,” she said. When the group finishes the song, one individual can be heard chanting “Viva México”, as others reply “viva”.
