Mexico's Popocatepetl Volcano Spews Ash Into Sky During Eruption

Mexico’s Popocatépetl volcano has been active this week with an explosion on February 23 and, more recently, an eruption that sent volcanic gas and a column of ash around a mile into the sky during the early morning hours of February 25.

A video of the eruption was shared on Twitter by Webcams de Mexico. It shows incandescent material flowing down the slopes of the volcano, followed by a plume of smoke that shoots up into the air.

Mexican officials have since registered another explosion from the volcano, and have raised warning levels while encouraging people to stay away from the volcano. Credit: Nicola Rustichelli via Storyful
