MI5 boss: UK in ‘contest with adversaries who have massive scale’

In a speech from the security agency’s Thames House headquarters in London on Wednesday, MI5 boss Ken McCallum set out in stark language the dangers faced from Russia, China and Iran as well as going over terrorism threats posed to the UK by Islamic extremists and right-wing extremists.

Iran has “ambitions” to kidnap or kill Britons it sees as “enemies of the regime”, Mr McCallum said as he warned of the “very real” threats posed by hostile states.

The Director general told how the Middle East country “projects threat to the UK directly, through its aggressive intelligence services”, revealing at least 10 such potential threats have been seen so far this year.
