Mice will 'never' enter your home when using 'natural' item you 'need to' try
While some may find mice adorable, they are generally considered a nuisance due to their rapid reproduction rate and the extensive damage they can inflict. The MSD Manual Veterinary Manual, a reliable source for veterinarians, confirms that female mice can produce up to 15 litters annually.
Moreover, each litter could comprise up to 12 baby mice, or "pups", illustrating how swiftly a mouse infestation can develop. When nesting in your home, mice can chew through furniture, wiring, books, and insulation.
Mice can contaminate food with urine, faecal droppings and hair, and some may carry and spread diseases, reports the Express.
A natural repellent might be the answer to preventing mice from entering your house and establishing a nest within your home.
Shawn Woods wanted to experiment with a scent that is said to repel mice, so he set up his own test and shared the results on YouTube.
"We're going to test and see if mint actually works as a natural rodent repellent," Shawn announced.
There have been numerous claims that "mice hate the smell of mint", according to Shawn, who was initially doubtful about its effectiveness.
"The most recommended method is to get highly concentrated peppermint oil, like [an] essential oil," Shawn explained.
"They say if you place cotton balls around your house and refresh it on a regular basis with peppermint oil, you're less likely to have a rodent problem."
In an intriguing experiment, Shawn observed mice's behaviour towards a "feeding station" full of seeds in the presence and absence of peppermint oil.
Without the scent of peppermint oil, the mice freely entered the station to feed.
However, once peppermint oil was introduced, they refrained from entering the feeding station at all.
Following his review of motion camera footage from his experiment, Shawn concluded, "After setting up this experiment and reviewing the motion camera footage, I am convinced that mice hate the smell of mint,".
Elaborating on the findings, he noted, "It's true, mint oil works as a natural rodent repellent; it's a great tool in keeping rodents out of your house."
Shawn continued to offer practical advice saying: "You just need to replenish it as needed, but it definitely works."
