It would appear that Michael B Jordan has jumped from Wakanda over to Netflix, as the first-look trailer for his new superhero series Raising Dion just dropped.

First announced back in 2017, Raising Dion follows widowed mother Nicole (Alisha Wainwright) as she grapples with the fact that her young son Dion (Ja'Siah Young) has started to develop superhuman powers.

And as Dion continues to demonstrate his new abilities, which include telekinesis and teleportation, he soon garners the attention of some shadowy government organisations.

Black Panther star Jordan serves as executive producer for the new series, as well as taking on a supporting role as Dion's dad Mark, who died in mysterious circumstances during a storm.

Elsewhere, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World's Jason Ritter plays Mark's close friend Pat, who's on hand to provide support and advice to Nicole.

Speaking of the series to Entertainment Weekly last month, Shadowhunters star Wainwright explained that she jumped at the chance to get involved in the show.

"You come across so many superhero stories that usually are from the perspective of the person inflicted with the powers," she said.

"It was so refreshing to hear the story from the person whose life is so dramatically affected by that: the caregiver of that young person."

Raising Dion is based on the comic series of the same name by Dennis Liu, with the official log line reading: "A widowed mom sets out to solve the mystery surrounding her young son's emerging superpowers while keeping his extraordinary gifts under wraps."

Meanwhile, Jordan revealed earlier this year that he needed therapy after playing villain Erik Killmonger in Black Panther.

"I spent a lot of time alone. I figured Erik, his childhood growing up was lonely. He didn't have a lot of people he could talk to about this place called Wakanda that didn't exist," he explained.

"It was a little tough for me at first. Readjusting to people caring about me, getting that love that I shut out. I shut out love, I didn't want love."

Raising Dion premieres on Friday, October 4 on Netflix.
