Michael Barrymore 'Suing Police Over Arrest'

Michael Barrymore 'Suing Police Over Arrest'

Essex Police have refused to comment on reports Michael Barrymore is suing them after being arrested over the death of a man in his swimming pool.

The Strike It Lucky star is said to be seeking damages for harm to his reputation and his career after he was detained on suspicion of murder and sexual assault in 2007 - six years after the incident.

He and two other men were later released without charge.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We cannot comment because of ongoing civil litigation."

Stuart Lubbock, 31, was found dead at Barrymore's house in Roydon, Essex, in March 2001.

Cocaine, alcohol and ecstasy were found in his bloodstream.

An 2002 inquest heard Mr Lubbock had severe internal injuries, suggesting he may have been sexually assaulted.

The inquest recorded an open verdict.
