Michael Douglas' Mother Diana Dies Aged 92

Diana Douglas, the first wife of Kirk Douglas and mother of Michael Douglas, has died after a battle with cancer at the age of 92.

The actress spent her final hours on Saturday at a retirement home in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, said Michael Douglas' production company.

Her husband of 15 years, Donald Webster, told NBC News: "She was a truly lovely person and a really great lady."

Born in Bermuda, Douglas was an actress and model who appeared in 22 movies and numerous television series such as Dallas and ER.

As a model, she was on the cover of Life magazine in May 1943. Kirk Douglas, an acquaintance from acting school, saw the cover and vowed to marry her.

They tied the knot that year and had two sons, Michael and Joel, before divorcing in 1951.

They remained on amicable terms and appeared together in several later films, including her last movie in 2003, It Runs In The Family, which she co-starred in with Kirk Douglas, Michael Douglas and Cameron Douglas, her grandson.
