A special homecoming parade has been planned for road racing legend Michael Dunlop following his record-breaking exploits at the Isle of Man TT.

Dunlop became the most successful rider in TT history earlier this year when he beat his uncle Joey's longstanding record on the Mountain Course.

Joey's old record had stood at 26 wins, but Michael stretched his own tally to 29 with a four-time at this year's event.

Dunlop was recently honoured at Stormont, by invitation of Communities Minister Gordon Lyons. And now his home town of Ballymoney is set to pay its own tribute.

The official Michael Dunlop MD Racing Facebook page revealed that a special homecoming will be held on Saturday, October 26.

They said: "Keep your diary free as we have some exciting news for you all!

"Michaels homecoming has been confirmed for the 26th of October at approximately 5pm at Ballymoney Town Hall. Michael will have his bikes on display and he will be riding on a closed street with his TT winning bike in his hometown followed by a firework display.

"Michael would love to invite all his family/sponsors/friends/fans to help him celebrate his huge achievement as the most successful TT rider of all time. We will also have some specifically designed one off MD merchandise for sale at this event to mark this very special occasion.

"So this is an occasion not to be missed so bring your family, friends or your motorbikes. Everyone is welcome and we would love to make this a great event to mark a wonderful achievement on 26th of October."

Reflecting on his Isle of Man TT achievements, Dunlop told Belfast Live earlier this month: "It is great to be recognised. Just sitting here today (at Stormont) you realise you have done something . It is a pleasure for me, a privilege, really.

"I haven't really had time to reflect on things. We have been quite busy and we haven't had a chance to breathe. We were racing every weekend after the TT.

"Today probably shines a light on it a little bit more, and after the winter when racing settles down I will have a good, long think about it."
