Michael Dunlop made his Isle of Man TT debut back in 2007 as a mere teenage protege. Two years later he tasted his first ever Tourist Trophy win.

And the rest, as they say, is history.

it is a journey punctuated by tragedy and unthinkable grief, losing his father Robert, brother William and uncle Joey all to racing.

Michael has carried the flag in recent years, and the heavy burden of continuing a family dynasty steeped in road racing folklore, and unparalleled success.

And on Wednesday he etched his own name into the pantheon of greats by becoming the TT's most successful rider.

His first Tourist Trophy win came in 2009 - in the Supersport class - just one year after the death of his father at the North West 200. His second came two years later when he surged to victory in the Superstock class.

Dunlop was in the winner's enclosure again in 2012 when he claimed another Supersport triumph, while the following year he completed a memorable four-timer on the Mountain Course.

Another four-timer followed in 2014, including wins in the Superbike and Senior races on the BMW S1000RR. He also won on the Superstock and the Supersport bikes and set the first sub 17-minute lap at the TT.

Dunlop had to wait until 2016 for his next wins, in the Superbike and Senior TT races, while Dunlop added further Supersport and Senior wins in 2017.

A hat-trick followed in 2018, and the following year he secured a Lightweight victory to reach 19 career TT wins.

The Covid pandemic then forced the cancellation of the TT until its return in 2022 when Dunlop won both Supersport races, and last year he was back for more, overtaking John McGuinness (23) in the standings with wins in the Superbike, Supersport (2) and Supertwin.

That left Dunlop just one behind the record of his legendary uncle Joey, whose 26 wins had stood alone since 2000.

Victory in Saturday's Supersport race saw Dunlop draw level, and Wednesday's Supertwin finally saw the 35-year-old scale the top of the mountain.
