Michael Golding reveals what Steve Cooper told him before Leicester City transfer

Steve Cooper has already instilled confidence in latest Leicester City signing Michael Golding.

The 18-year-old has completed his move from Chelsea, signing a four year contract with the Foxes in a deal that was struck separately to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s £30 million move to Stamford Bridge.

On arrival at the King Power Stadium, the teenager told the club media: “I’m so excited to be here and can’t wait to get started training and learning under the new manager.

Cooper has a track record at developing players and working with them at England youth level, making for a perfect match.

“Yeah, I’m very excited to learn under Steve Cooper,” he told the club website. “Some of the players he’s worked with, he has a track record of working with young players so I am just ready to get started under him and take as much information as I can to improve my career.”

He added: “I spoke to him a day ago and he’s really given me confidence just to believe in myself and show my ability on the pitch when I am here and help the team as much as I can.

“I’m really looking forward to playing for the Foxes at the King Power Stadium in the Premier League. It’s a dream come true.

“I’m just looking to soak up as much information as I can from all the senior players here, to learn from Leicester and hopefully have a great season here. I’m buzzing to meet the lads and get going with the team.”

Asked what attracted him to the club, he said: “Obviously the history of the club speaks for itself. There are great players here; legends of the game such as Jamie Vardy, and I am excited to play with these players and also break into the first team.”

So far in his young career Golding has played in an Under-17s World Cup, captained England at youth level and made his senior debut.

“Yeah, I have made some steps but I am looking forward to making some leaps and bounds in my career here at Leicester, and hopefully work hard and have a good season in the Premier League here,” he said.

“I am looking forward to getting more experience this season and hopefully be a big player for the team.”
