Michael Gove filmed dancing alone at Aberdeen nightclub Pipe

Michael Gove has been filmed awkwardly dancing alone in a nightclub after allegedly trying to dodge the £5 door charge.

The minister, tipped to replace Dominic Raab as Foreign Secretary, looked bleary-eyed as he danced at Pipe until at least 2.30am on Sunday morning, according to fellow ravers.

The 54-year-old showed no inhibition, waving his hands uncontrollably at the camera at the club in Aberdeen, where he was visiting family during Parliament’s summer recess.

The manager said Gove, who earns nearly £150k a year, had tried to blag his way into the club for free.

Adam Taylor, who was manning the door, told the Daily Record: “I was welcoming people at the door of O’Neill’s for the launch of ‘Pipe’, our new club night and art organisation when Michael Gove, who had been drinking downstairs tried to walk past me upstairs without paying the entry fee.

“He was saying he shouldn’t have to pay because he is the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.

“I told him that my co-manager, Nina Stanger, was upstairs playing Jungle and going hard. Michael said ‘I love dancing’ and did he ever.”

Mr Taylor added: “I guess I’m glad he enjoyed it. We want to create events for everyone, even if we may disagree with most of what they stand for.”

Mr Gove announced he was divorcing his wife since the columnist Sarah Vine just under two months ago.

In a statement, a spokesman for the couple said: “Michael and Sarah have agreed to separate and they are in the process of finalising their divorce.”
