Michael McIntyre robbed by hammer-wielding muggers during school run


Cape Town- British comedian Michael McIntyre was shocked after masked robbers on a moped smashed his car window with a hammer and robbed him.

The comedian, who presents Michael McIntyre’s Big Show was waiting for his sons, Lucas (13) and Oscar (10), outside their school in Golders Green in north London when the attack happened at about at about 14:00, reports Daily Mail.

Michael (42) was in his Range Rover, which is worth about R2m, when the masked men arrived on a scooter. They smashed his window and grabbed his Rolex, which is worth about R250k, from his wrist.

The attack lasted about 30 seconds.

A witness told Daily Mail that Michael fell out of the vehicle during the attack and it seemed as though he was trying to fight off the robbers.

After the ordeal Michael was spotted comforting his children who, along with his wife, Kitty, outside the school shortly after the attack.

Daily Mail further reports that it’s not known whether the comedian or his vehicle were the target, but it seems he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Police said no injury was reported and no one was arrested.

Michael’s agent said to The Sun: "Michael was involved in an incident [with] armed robbers. He’s absolutely fine and [is] helping police with their inquiries."

Moped crime has been on the rise in London in recent years, with about 23 000 incidents reported last year. The figure has increased drastically from a reported 827 attacks in 2012.
