Michael Moore asked Tom Hanks to run for President twice, documentary maker has revealed

Michael Moore asked Tom Hanks to run for President of the United States twice, the documentary maker has revealed.

Asked on Good Morning Britain who could defeat Donald Trump at the next election, Moore - who predicted Trump's 2016 victory - said that Americans were looking for "a beloved American, someone people would vote for".

"I've said for years Oprah should run," he said. "I've asked Tom Hanks twice to run. Who doesn't like Tom Hanks? Nobody, right? Tom Hanks would win."

Questioned about the actor's answer to calls to run for office, Moore recalled how he firmly said "No, stop asking me."

"Maybe Michelle Obama, but she said no," he continued.

Moore was promoting his documentary Fahrenheit 11/9, which focusses on the Trump administration and how Barack Obama's presidency paved the way for the former Apprentice host to defeat Hilary Clinton. He has been an adamant critic of Trump, once warning that the current president "is going to get us all killed."
