Michelin star restaurant near Merseyside wins 'surprising' award

Lancashire restaurant Moor Hall has been awarded an AA Wine Award. The restaurant has earned a reputation for being one of the best restaurants in the country over the years and has won many prestigious awards.

The award-winning restaurant holds two Michelin stars, a Michelin Green Star and five AA Rosettes. It was also ranked in the top 100 list at The National Restaurant Awards 2024.

Chef Mark Birchall opened the Aughton venue in 2016 and it has gone from strength to strength. The spectacular glass-fronted restaurant is set within five-acre grounds and has an open kitchen as well as a walk-in cheese room, which diners are encouraged to visit.

Matthew Davison, restaurant director for Moor Hall Restaurant with Rooms said: “I’m genuinely so proud of what we have achieved with our list, it was surprising yet wonderful news when I heard we had won this award. Great to have all the teams hard work recognised like this, thank you so much, beyond grateful.”

As well as a walk-in cheese room which showcases some of the best British and Irish Farmhouse cheeses, customers can also enjoy an awe-inspiring wine cellar. On their website, Moor Hall say: ''Our wine philosophy is simple, we want it to be fun, interactive, enjoyable, and within reach of everyone.''

Mark's neighbourhood restaurant The Barn is located within the grounds of Moor Hall. The Barn offers a beautiful setting paired with great menus and excellent service and boasts a Michelin star of its own.
