Michelin-starred Cambridge restaurant named among top 100 in UK
A Michelin-starred Cambridge restaurant has been named among the top 100 in the UK. Restaurant 22, on Chesterton Road, was highlighted as part of the 2024 National Restaurant Awards.
The restaurant is in a beautifully restored Victorian townhouse and has been serving the city for more than 30 years. It offers customers charming views onto the River Cam and Jesus Green as well as an ever-changing seasonal menu of contemporary British dishes.
The restaurant, ranked at number 78 on the list, was the only one from the county to be included in the guide's top 100. It is the restaurant's latest accolade, having won three AA Rosettes in September 2022 and its first Michelin Star in March 2023.

Restaurant 22 is run by husband and wife team Sam Carter and Alex Olivier, who took over the lease of the site in 2018. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, with its current menu including Yorkshire spring lamb, 40-day aged Hereford beef, and Cornish crab.
A statement from the guide said: "It’s a small restaurant (just 22 covers in total), but one that embraces the intimacy of the space with soft lighting and cosy interiors that have a Scandi minimalist vibe. The cooking is defined as being 'modern British', with the tasting menu – available in both short and long form versions – changing regularly.
"Carter is clearly a talent, with a deft ability to make his ingredients sing without overcomplicating a dish. Complementing the food is the restaurant’s warm and enthusiastic service team, who ensure the atmosphere remains lively and vibrant."
The National Restaurant Awards have been run every year since 2007 and help to celebrate the best of the UK's eating out scene, as voted for by the academy's chefs and food writers. In a ceremony on Monday (June 10), The Ledbury, in Notting Hill, London, took the top spot for National Restaurant of the Year.
