Michelle Keegan returns to Our Girl: Sergeant Georgie Lane will face her fears in Afghanistan in series 4

Michelle Keegan has confirmed her return to Our Girl for series four, warning that her character Georgie Lane has “unfinished business”.

The former Coronation Street actress has signed on for another series of the hit army drama playing medic Lane, who has now been promoted to Sergeant.

Set a year on from 2 Section’s tour of Bangladesh and heart-stopping cliff jump, Georgie is back in Manchester surrounded by her friends and family and has decided not to join her squadron on a tour of Afghanistan.

But the demons she fought to lock away soon come back to haunt her as a near-fatal incident sparks memories of Elvis’ horrifying death, prompting her to go on tour to confront the past.

Of her return, Keegan said: “Being in OUR GIRL has been one of the highlights of my career so far. I feel very lucky to be part of the show and I’m really excited that it's coming back.

“The audience response has been so positive and I think Georgie is a character who resonates with viewers. I absolutely love playing the role. Be prepared for another incredible series - Georgie’s still got unfinished business.”

The series will once again be written by Tony Grounds who revealed that the series will focus on Georgie facing her fears head-on as she enters Taliban-controlled areas, haunted by losing the love of her life to an attack.

Filming for the new series will begin in South Africa in April. Further casting will be announced in due course.

Keegan, 31, became an instant fan favourite when she replaced Lacey Turner as the lead role in the military drama after one series back in 2016.

The actress, who is married to reality star-turned-showbiz presenter Mark Wright, previously told the Standard that she always “misses” Georgie when filming ends, having seen the same co-stars daily for months abroad.

Our Girl will return to BBC One.
