Michelle Keegan Ridiculed Over Football Gaffe

Former Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan is about to appear as Bobby Moore’s wife Tina in a new ITV drama – but she clearly hasn’t been doing her homework.

The actress made an almighty gaffe during an appearance on BBC Breakfast which left football fans cringing behind the sofa.

Quizzed by presenter Louise Minchin about the drama, called ‘Tina and Bobby’, the star said: “Back in the sixties people didn’t really know anything about football. It wasn’t really a major sport back then.”

Er, well there was that time England only went and WON THE WORLD CUP IN 1966? “They think it’s all over – it’s is now!” and all that stuff? No?

Never mind, it’s not like she’s about to play the wife of the country’s only ever World Cup winning captain, is it? Oh.

Hopefully Michelle’s woeful lack of footballing knowledge doesn’t seep through into the drama, in which co-star Lorne MacFadyen plays the part of WORLD CUP WINNING captain Bobby Moore, otherwise we could be in for some difficult viewing.

Michelle also used the interview to chat about Bobby and Tina being the first ‘golden couple’ of football, paving the way for the likes of Posh and Becks, Wayne and Coleen and Ronaldo and whoever it is he’s been spotted with this week.

So maybe she was talking about soccer in the showbiz sense. Let’s give her the benefit of the doubt.
