Yahoo News Michelle Obama just won a Grammy
Michelle Obama won her very first Grammy last night. The former First Lady of the United States beat out the likes of The Beastie Boys and John Waters to win in the spoken-word category for the audiobook version of her bestselling autobiography, 'Becoming'.
The memoir told her life story up to now, from her childhood growing up on the south side of Chicago to entering the White House as the first black First Lady of the US. 'Becoming' was the best-selling hardback book of 2018, with Obama's book tour also selling out entire stadiums worldwide, leading to more dates having to be added.
Michelle Obama is not the only member of her family to have won a Grammy. Former President Barack Obama has taken the accolade home twice, both in the spoken-word category, the first in 2006 for his recording of 'Dreams From My Father' and then again in 2008 for 'The Audacity Of Hope'.
Although Obama was not in attendance to collect her award this year, she did surprise everyone by turning up to the awards show in 2019, stepping on stage with Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Jada Pinkett Smith to officially begin the show.
With a number of Grammys now under their belts, the Obamas could be looking next at picking up an Oscar. The couple's production company, Higher Ground Productions, has been nominated for an Academy Award for its documentary American Factory. Could we see them on that red carpet next month? Here's hoping.
