Michigan Deputy Helps Pull Woman From Icy Water

A deputy with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office helped rescue a woman who fell into icy water while she was fishing in Harrison Township, Michigan, on Monday, January 27.

The young woman was fishing on docks in Harrison Township when she lost her footing and slipped off the pier into the icy waters below.

The woman’s friend and two fishermen in the area who heard the woman crying out for help were unable to pull her from the water. When the deputy arrived, the woman had been in the 36-degree water for 15 minutes. The two fishermen were holding her hands, stopping her from going under. With the deputy’s help, the woman was finally hauled from the water, her body completely numb.

The woman was “doing better” on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said, but she also wanted “to remind people to always fish with a partner and make sure you have proper, non-slip, footwear.” Credit: Macomb County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
