Microsoft Word for Tablet review

Microsoft Word for Tablet has a familiar Office look and feel and features intuitive controls to make document creation and editing on a large tablet not only possible, but also quite enjoyable. The downside to using this app is that you need a Microsoft Account to create or edit documents and an Office 365 subscription for more advanced features, such as track and review changes, insert page breaks, or customize headers.

Pros

Highly intuitive design: Thanks to the function menus, Microsoft Word for Tablet proves to be surprisingly easy to use, especially on a large tablet in landscape mode.

Great performance: This app offers a smooth user experience without any lag or stuttering. You can create or edit sophisticated documents full of images without any performance slowdowns or crashes.

Great companion to Office for PC: The app remembers your position in a document across devices, so you can easily start a document on your PC, then edit it on your tablet on your way to work, and then review it on your office desktop.

Cons

Free only for screen sizes below 10.1 inches: If your tablet happens to have a screen larger than 10.1, you cannot use this app unless you buy an Office 365 subscription.

Black screen bug: While testing this app in portrait mode, half of our screen turned black, forcing us to restart the app.

Doesn't integrate with Google Drive: While it supports Dropbox and Microsoft's OneDrive cloud storage, it cannot open or save Google Drive documents.

Bottom Line

Microsoft Word for Tablet is the powerful product we expected, retaining all the essential Microsoft Word for PC features you need to craft professional-looking documents. Before downloading it, you must sign up for a Microsoft Account if you don't have one already, as well as buy an Office 365 subscription to get the most out of it.
